Popo Carnaval

The Popo carnival of Bonoua is a cultural festival celebrated every year.
It has its origins in the modifications that the young Abouré of Bonoua, a town located in the south-east of the Ivory Coast, made to the annual yam festival.
Thus, in 1946, they innovated by organizing the « Popo » which means « mask » in the Abouré language.
Later, these young people who initiated the « Popo » become adults, baptized this time the annual festival of the yams of the name « Popo Carnival », by introducing the modern aspect of the carnival there in the form of a parade of all the living forces of the region.
