A strict nature reserve on the World Heritage list, shared with Guinea and Liberia.
The Nimba range rises at the point where Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea and Liberia meet, and its isolation has produced an exceptional concentration of species found nowhere else — including a toad that gives birth to live young rather than laying eggs. UNESCO listed the massif in 1981 and 1982 across the borders.
This is the least accessible site in this list, and deliberately so. It is a strict reserve: access is regulated, permits are required, and there is no tourist infrastructure. If you are a naturalist and you want to go, tell us early and we will start the paperwork. If you want a straightforward hiking trip, Man is the better answer.
The massif's isolation has produced species restricted to these slopes alone — the reason for its protected status.
